And there’s also a quote fromHall plans to include a photo of the two men together in his Sept. 21 program, for which“When Tony Bennett died recently there was an early pic of him with Bill Randle at an appearance with young kids when he came to Cleveland way back in the early 1950s at the beginning of his career,” Hall recalled.This picture was taken about 1960 and shows Bill Randle with Sister Mildred Barker at the Shaker community in Sabbathday Lake, Maine.
Much later, Hall was asked by a producer at Rounder Records, a folk label in Cambridge, Mass., to edit the two albums of Shaker music from that LP set. Working on his master’s degree thesis at Binghamton University in New York, Hall focused on the Shakers’ unusual music notation, using letters of the alphabet instead of traditional music notation.
During that most recent visit, Hall said he and his wife enjoyed Market Hall in the Van Aken District, which they had not seen before.
