Weather forecasters are sounding the alarm bells and discouraging drivers to stay off roads in the Sierra Nevada and Tahoe area Saturday night and into Sunday.

The weather service has a winter storm watch warning of dangerous driving conditions in effect 4 p.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday, but forecaster Cory Mueller said the most severe weather is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning. Friday and Saturday morning are expected to provide a window of time for safe mountain driving conditions with snow impacts expected to be relatively minor in the northern Sierra.
