When Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline has officially been confirmed by Disney. Although the first Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland was released in July 2017, the film has not been part of Disney+'s collection of MCU content during the last few years. This is because Spider-Man: Homecoming was made by Sony with Marvel Studios' help and the film's streaming rights landed elsewhere.
While Spider-Man: Homecoming was released before Black Panther but after Doctor Strange, its MCU timeline placement is correct by all accounts. The solo movie takes place two months after Captain America: Civil War, placing the events in 2016. Black Panther takes place shortly after T'Chaka's death in Civil War, while Doctor Strange's events span into 2017. This means Spider-Man: Homecoming's MCU timeline spot is correct.
